Ribbed Beanie - Knit Flat!

In this video I show step-by-step how to knit a ribbed beanie. This is a great tutorial for beginner knitters because this beanie is knit flat! You do not need to know how to knit in the round or use double pointed needles! I take you though each of the steps, from the cast on, to the cast off.

Decrease Repeat Row 2 — Right Side

On the first repeat, attach the removable marker to the side facing you to identify the right side.

Knit 1, slip the marker. Work this section 5 times: repeat (knit 1, purl 1) until 2 stitches remain before the next marker, K2T, slip the marker. Purl the final stitch and turn.

Close the Crown

Transfer the stitches from the left needle to the right, removing the markers. Cut the yarn, leaving a 1-yard (0.9 m) tail. Using the tapestry needle, pass the tail through the remaining stitches from the opposite end of the row, left to right. (Video 22:40)

Seam the Hat

With the right side facing out—the side marked by the removable marker—sew the two side edges together using mattress stitch.

Folded brim: Stop seaming 1.5 [2] inches (3.8 [5.1] cm) before the bottom edge. Pass the seaming tail to the inside, turn the hat inside out, and finish the seam on this side so it is hidden when the brim is folded.
